Ileen Oshell: The same thing happened to me they usually nail the person who has insurance on that particular car, you will have some proving to do call the dmv and find out, also call your ins you pay them even if they are not responsible they will give you advice. and they could usually straighten it out, once you prove that your dad bought the car, you may have to contact the original owner to write something up, and that you dad has no ins, your ins should have to fight it. the first phone call you should make is to your current open policy ins it their job to investigate this mess....Show more

Hwa Waterford: definitely go after the other lady's insurance and just call your insurance company to make sure you can add the vehicle. some times they won't put coverage on it because it was in an accident until after it is fixed.!

If you bought it the day of the accident, you may be ab! le to convince the insurance company that you were on the way to buy the insurance when the accident occurred. If it is not on the same day, you will probably be out of luck.Also, you said you registered it, but in every state that I know of, you need to show proof of insurance when registering a vehicle. If your father truly registered it, he must have had insurance then canceled it. If this is the case, you're definitely screwed.You may have one other out.
