New York Cell Phones?

Truman Biby: Is it working? If you mean is it being obeyed? NO. It may have cut down on cell phone use while driving; there is no way to know who is not making a call or is pulling over because of the law. I still see many people talking on cell phones while driving - taxi drivers are the worst. By the way, it is not illegal to talk on the cell phone while driving - it is illegal to HOLD the phone while driving - in their infinite wisdom, New York City lawmakers think it's okay to talk if you have the phone on speaker or if you use a headset. If I listen to my radio with a headset (as a pedestrian), I can't hear a car honking its horn. All drivers should be able to hear horns.If anyone invents a gadget that would disable all cell phones within fifteen feet of me, I would definitely buy one....Show more

Jene Kostyla: civilians are allowed to use cell phones, but only with hands-free set.taxi and livery drivers are not allowed to use a cellphone in any way if ! their car is running (even if it's parked)either way drivers still used them too often, but it's helped curb cellphone use.
