Barton Morfee: The USB ports on ALL Satellite/Cable DVRs are NOT ENABLED, secondly the USB ports are NOT for the purpose of connecting a male to male usb cable. It is for connecting a USB Ethernet Device to be able to connect for networking purposes. This ONLY works on Tivo's or MODIFIED direcTV Tivo's.The ONLY option that MAY work for you is to see if there is a PCMCIA card (IF YOUR LAPTOP HAS A PCMCIA CARD SLOT) possible a TV Tuner Capture Card, as long as it is Bi-Directional. Or check for another type PCMCIA card that has S-Video ro RCA Audio and Video jacks on it. Then you can transfer back and forth between the TV and Laptop....Show more
Arlen Hamper: i did it with my dish network dvr, but it could not be done directly - used "Dazzle" interface with included software. you have to play it back and record, no "grabbing" of files which I thought I could do b/c there was a usb 2.0 on the back of the dvr (they said that was for "future development")
