How to teach myself ballet?

Randall Twehous: Hula dancing is not as easy as you think. I've been doing Polynesian and Tahitian dancing for the last year now, and i can honestly say its a job. Hula is a very calming dance but also very difficult. Hulas usually tell a story and you have to be careful about little thing you do because one off move changes the story or can change what you're suppose to be "saying" to the AUDIENCE. But its also EXTREMELY fun, I recommend you take lessons, an instructional DVD is NOTHING like the actually in class experience.

Lady Laflin: well i really dont know of any types of dance classes that u just go when u feel like it. i mean u can go to ur dance classes when ur not so busy. if ur not so serious about dance then only do a few classes or just one or two. that way its not that big of a commitment. ihope this helps :)

Alden Soldano: Find a hula halau. Normally the classes are only once or twice a week, are in the evening and sometimes even on the weekends! . Try going to mele.com and click on the "Halau hula" button in the right hand lower corner.Mapu

Branden Round: http://www.digitaldancers.com

Tyrone Disanti: Whatever you do DO NOT teach yourself ballet it is dangerous you need a qualified teacher.

Romana Stiman: You could teach yourself the basic things like the 5 positions of the feet, but in ballet the right technique is very important so I'd recommend taking up ballet classes. It's never too late to start ballet, provided that you are healthy. There are teen and adult beginner classes. The only way to really learn how to dance is to have a teacher correct you and give you instructions. And you need some years (I don't know exactly how many but I think at least 2) of ballet training with a teacher to dance on pointes. Otherwise you may hurt your feet and legs....Show more

Nikita Schroepfer: I love dancing and I used to take dance classes. But now with so much school and everything I can't really c! ommit to doing ever certain day becuase of my school schedule.! Does anyone know of any type of dance classes that you kindof just go when you want. My brother takes brazilian jujitsu and he just goes when he wants. Does anyonne know if dance classes like this exist?... or have any other solutions. Don't say to join school dance because dance at my school is a joke. I appreciate all answers!

Maritza Ebanks: YOU CAN TOTALLY TEACH YOURSELF BALLET! If you want to suck!trust me ballet isn't something you can teach yourself by watching youtube videos and reading about it. you need an experienced teacher to make sure you are doing it right!!! so if you can't afford going to a studio i would recommend having a friend who does ballet give you the basics.

Miguel Koczela: Dance is a way of expressing yourself. Dance is a language that everyone can understand. You dance when you can't put the words together. It's a way of expression and every dance tells a story. Whether it's fast, slow, ballet, jazz, tap, or hip-hop if you look close! ly enough all dancer have something to say. Hope i could help a bit! :)

Kaley Lappas: I always suggest taking classes because it will help you get some where besides your living room....but you tube has full instructional video's that breakdown and explain every move. Also the new york city ballet work out video is amazing for learning the terms and correct posture ect...good luck its great exercise and lots of fun!

Jacques Vaquera: Umm...I'm sure it's possible to teach yourself ballet, but it is not a good idea for several reasons.1. Ballet goes against virtually all normal laws of the human body, meaning, do it wrong and you could seriously hurt yourself.2. Its really intricate. There's a lot of stuff that you just can't teach yourself.3. When you're doing a complicated step/jump/turn, you can't really see to correct yourself, and you may not notice that you're doing something wrong. Trust me, once you learn a move wrong, it's really hard to unlearn it.Plus, ! there's so much more fun stuff at a studio, such as:1. A supportive tea! cher who can teach you tons more stuff both about ballet itself as well as stage and performance stuff.2. Classmates to learn from too. Sometimes its easier to learn from other people's mistakes and fixes than by just what the teacher is telling you. Besides, its nice to have a group of girls who are learning the same stuff you are. Comraderie and all.3. A venue for performance! Some schools, like mine, hold a year end recital while others have multiple recitals or do competition-type stuff.Really, I'd look for a studio. It's waaay better than trying to teach yourself....Show more

Serita Hefferon: if youve never had classes, i wouldn't recommend trying to teach yourself. chances are that teaching yourself at home will ingrain bad habits into your muscle memory. once you do go to classes, you'll learn to do the steps correctly, but it will take twice as long to learn them.

Torri Tippey: well u can first try to learn all of the simple and basic moves, like the pli! e, degage, tendu etc., from there on u can make a whole dance!

Giovanna Cramblit: well for me i dance 15+ hours a week. it is everything. i constantly think about it. when i don't dance i get antsy and start dancing instead of walking. I don't do my hw... ect. Dance helps me release my emotions and understand my body

Arlen Decorte: its like life because:you can either love it or hate itits either good at times or bad at timesyou can rarely ever trust anybodyyou have to ALWAYS try your bestyou can't always expect everything to go your wayyou should never let someone bring you downyou have to work your butt off to get anywhere

Jene Kostyla: you can go on youtube, find several books on ballet, etc. just remember, even though you can teach yourself basic ballet DO NOT attempt to go en pointe without proper instruction and an experienced teacher. i'm saying this because you could really hurt yourself and end up with permanent foot and ankle damage.

Ninfa! Aronica: Is hula dancing hard? Can I take lessons or do I need to get ! an instructional dvd?

Myriam Hetjonk: mmm.... It is possible to be self-taught in ballet however not recommended at all. Here's an ordered-list of what you can do:1. get familiar with ballet vocabulary by researching. You will find out there are 3 main "schools" in ballet - french, russian, cecchetti - you might want to choose one of them to start with or you'll get all confused (although it is good to know the differences). BUT you also need to be able to assimilate the terms with the movements. That's why having a visual example is best (such as: a teacher!).2. you can learn the basics on an online site called DancePlug - http://www.danceplug.com/plug-away - where they have online videos for ballet (amongst other styles). The "basics" show you how to do single movements. Once you have the "basics" down, move on to their "exercises". It's like a short combination of steps. And then if you want to push it forward, they have "combinations", these are whole dance routin! es. Right now these classes are taught by two great ballet teachers.3. BUT do not only do research or online classes. Being in a classroom with a teacher is very important, because they can correct you, and believe me, ballet positions need a lot of attention. So this is the last step I suggest, once you have some kind of knowledge on ballet: go TAKE a beginner's class. Find out the dance schools or studios around you, research to see which one fits your needs, and go for it!Good luck :-)...Show more

Luke Kosch: i know you want to teach yourself ballet but you really should go to a studio because the last thing you want to do is put your self en pointe when youre not ready for it so you do something bad to your ankles really just try a class

Nadia Crauswell: umm try going online maybe to Utube or something and watching. also get books on ballet that teach you the basic positions and stuff. although i wouldn't recomend you try too much on yuor own because it soo! o easy to hurt yourself without an instructor. For example by just plie! ing (bending your knees) wrong, you can have cronic knee pain and need a brace. but learn the basics for now anyway. good luck

Scot Rotruck: well where i live (near san francisco) i can take drop in classes from one of my favorite teachers at a studio in SF. But im not sure how much this would apply to you because i already take regular classes at another studio, but just go there to take drop in classes once in awhile.... just trying to let you know that it can be done. they're usually like $12 per class (give or take some). hope this helped

Eldridge Rieves: Check around for open classes. I don't know of any in rural or suburban areas, but a lot of cities have them. New York has a lot, like at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center.

Dick Ovdenk: helpful why no longer! it would not even count number how previous you're those instructions are exciting. My young ones would desire to realize because of the fact i'm a mom does no longer advise i'm lifele! ss and would desire to take a seat down domicile knitting all day.

Renita Sefton: You have emotions that usually turn into energy..I've come to realise that people need to do something so that this energy is channelled right (positively.. :D )OK, I know nothng about dancing but I know a little about loving it! If you're feeling sad or angry or too happy you get a little confused or too keen to do something about it. Dancing it out might straighten your thoughts before you take action. This way you get to avoid doing things in the middle of an anger or sheer happiness..

Bennie Lantgen: It would probably be really hard to teach yourself. If you want to learn simple movements you can go the the American Ballet Theatre website and look at their dictionary of ballet terms. Most of the terms also have a quicktime video that shows you what they look like. I'd look into Ballet books. However, it is very easy to injure yourself so be careful!!

Rosalva Steinmann! : I need to write an essay but have no idea where to start. Please help! !!

Edmund Rappley: I did ballet, tap and jazz for years. For me if showed me how to hold myself and be classy and by dancing its all about expressing yourself through music and the way you gracefully move about.
