What are some great, involved board games?

Gordon Showes: chess is always greatdraught board checkers is fineif there are 4 people supply is good

Julee Lanham: Monopoly- Seems boring but when you get into it... oh boy, things can get a bit outa hand if thats what you wantScatagories- Very fun, can go on for plenty of rounds. With 8 lists and like 2X letters, you could play for days and still not finish because in this game you roll a letter dice... now im just rambling, just try it...Show more

Octavio Roylance: SyBotC got there first with my answer, I'll just supplement it with some suggestions: "Settlers of Cataan" is a "Civilization development" game, a good introduction to EuroGames, and very popular, an easy to learn game of it's type. "Puerto Rico" is an awesome strategy game, the only problem it has is anyone who plays immediately after a beginner is at an unfair advantage "BattleLore" is a fairly new game of medieval battles including Magic. "Memoir 44" uses the BattleLore system (oops, actuall! y Memior44 came FIRST) to simulate WW2 Battles. Another game using the system is "Command & Colors". "Twilight Struggle" is a card-based game of the cold war. Lots of fun if you're interested in the subject. "Advanced Squad Leader" is tops in it's class for simulating WW2 battles IF you have LOTS of time and Money. If this sounds like something interesting check out the "Starter Kits" FIRST. Incidentally, you can;t go wrong with nearly ANYTHING Fantasy Flight Games, Rio Grande Games, or Days Of Wonder sells....Show more

Julienne Poplawski: Super Scrabble has a bigger board with more multiplier squares, more letters, and takes about twice as long. My bf and I love it!

Elmo Tervo: If it's just you and your brother, you might try the various Commands and Colors games (Battlelore - fantasy medieval, Memoir '44 - WWII, or Commands & Colors: Ancients - mostly Roman). These are games recreating historical battles, and I'd rate them as about the same complexity as Axi! s & Allies, maybe just a bit more, but very involved.Race for ! the Galaxy is good with two players, although it can handle up to four (five with the expansion).A couple of two player Eurogames that I like are Dungeon Twister and Hellas. If you like Tolkien, you might try FFG's War of the Ring.A couple of good WWII small unit tactics games are Combat Commander: Europe and Conflict of Heroes:Awakening the Bear. Some other possibilities for games covering entire wars are A House Divided (American Civil War), Twilight Struggle (Cold War) or Hannibal:Rome vs. Carthage. If you can get some more people, you might try Princes of Florence, Agricola, Tikal, Thebes or Power Grid. These require, or are at least better with, 3 - 5 people. All of these are hobby games, so you're probably going to need to find a local gaming store or order them online. Boards and Bits and Thoughthammer are two good online retailers....Show more

Alise Rutgers: We have played alot of Mega Monopoly

Monty Sieloff: I highly, highly recommend checking out BoardGa! meGeek's website; they have reviews and information for literally thousands of games.http://www.boardgamegeek.comThat said, I recommend you and your brother look into "Euro-style" board games, which are far more involved than "American-style" games. Most can be played in 1-2 hours. I suggest looking into board games from the following companies: Days of Wonder, Rio Grande Games, and Fantasy Flight. Ystari & Z-man games are also excellent.http://www.daysofwonder.comhttp://www.riograndegames.comhttp://www.fantasyflightgames.comhttp://www.ystari.comhttp://www.zmangames.com/Just off the top of my head, these are games I own and/or recommend (you can look all of these up on BGG & company websites):Carcassonne (several versions and MANY expansions)Ticket to Ride (several versions; Europe is the best)Settlers of CatanMemoir '44BattleLoreAgricolaCleopatra & the Society of ArchitectsShadows Over CamelotPuerto RicoSan JuanCaylusYspahanThrough the DesertPowergridPandemicBlue Moon C! ity1960: the Making of a PresidentArkham HorrorBetrayal at the House on! the HillMr. JackGheosLord of the Rings: the ConfrontationCitadels(Note: several of these are 2-player only, which would be good for you and your brother. Others are better with 3-5 people.)Depending on where you live, you may be able to find hobby gaming stores or gaming clubs in your city. These are a great way to find and try out new games....Show more

Alden Soldano: Try Runebound or Descent.
