Whats your opinion on letting a newborn watch television?

Branden Round: Really? You are really overeacting.

Ricky Frazer: It's not good for them. However, i have a9 month old and i do let her watch baby channel on dish, it has counting, colors etc so i know she's not watching anything bad. I only let her watch when i need to make dinner and she's fussy.

Julieta Suleiman: my little one started to watch tv since 2 month old like for 2 mins and now if i am alone and i need a shower or something i let her watch for few mins, i am not sure if it is beneficial towards they're development, talking and playing with baby is more beneficial

Emilie Santmyer: Studies show a correlation between ADHD and TV viewing. Now a few minutes here or there won't hurt, but there is no benefit. For young children they are mesmerized by the fast moving colors and sounds, but they spend the entire time overwhelmed and trying to make sense of what is happening. It simply goes too fast for their brains to understand. As well TV often is a! substitute for parental interaction and a poor one at that. Good for you.

Irving Jordahl: There are no benefits to watching children for infants and toddlers, and its' fine if you prefer that she doesn't do so. The AAP recommends no tv for under 2's, and there are no programs aimed at this age group. (And DVDs like Baby Einstein and Your Baby Can Read are scams, and do not help with infant development.) OTOH, many moms do enjoy watching tv (it can help pass the time while breastfeeding for many hours....) so baby may be exposed to a little tv; and some find that putting baby in front of the tv for 5 minutes while they get dinner in the oven or grab a quick shower is a necessary evil....Show more

Maria Devenney: laptops have replaced tv.welcome to 2012

Nelly Kikuchi: There is no benefit to children under 2 years of age watching anything on a screen (TV or computer) and for some children it may be harmful and interfere with learning. As Pippin mentions, ! the AAP discourages this practice as well.It is much more valu! able for babies and toddlers to be interacting with and learning from their care givers than being parked in front of a screen....Show more

Lucille Saetteurn: You are overreacting. Television can be stimulating but it should be a rare treat, not a second parent. Play with your child when you have the time, take walks, go outside. But a half hour of PBS kids never hurt anyone.

Voncile Slaubaugh: I would rather my child not watch t.v at all. I come from a very large and extended family (12 girl first cousins 2 boys, and close to 20 second cousins) my grandmother still babysits till this day also, children that were not related to me, So I have watched what the effects of t.v. are on children. I prefer they be outside. Children are sponges and they mimic everything and remember more than they should, television does not have enough child censored material for them , just simply think of all the misconception you ever had of real life because of something you saw o! n t.v. I wouldn't prevent a child under one from watching t.v because it can stimulate their brain but I would still choose child friendly movies and such if I were to do that ....Show more

Francis Stickle: My daughter is 19 months and is just barley peaking an interest in TV. We've bought kids movies and let her watch "Mikey Mouse Clubhouse" but she only listens long enough for a song and then she's off running around. I don't mind her watching a little bit, but I don't want her to be a TV zombie. I had my own TV at a young age and refuse to let my daughter become like that. Don't get me wrong I enjoy TV, but there's more to life than just sitting in front of it.
