How is Health Care a right?

Victor Macallister: I asked this same question- suppose health care is a right, then is health care still a right for those who are chain smokers, couch potatoes, etc? If health care is a right, then it seems like people are going to be a lot more unhealthy/willing to take risks which is a real downside

Stephnie Patout: The Preamble states that the purpose of the U.S. constitution is to protect the general welfare of the nation. A major part of general welfare is health and access to healthcare. The Declaration of Independence says that our inalienable rights include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Health and access to health care comes under life. It really couldn't be any clearer.
